Mary Anne Cross-Ehasz collection 1953-1957

The Mary Anne Cross-Ehasz collection contains documents, projects, and memorabilia from Ehasz's time at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The collection includes copies of Ehasz's seal, which served as the official seal of the university from 1956-1966, and the original hand-painted copy. Several photographs of students, as well as photographs for student projects, are also in the collection. Memorabilia includes an astray souvenir from the 1956 Senior Banquet, a ceramic mug souvenir from the 1957 Senior Banquet, and an RIT sweatshirt from 1953. The collection also contains documents related to Ehasz's scholarship and copies of the RIT Reporter from 1957 and Gamma Epsilon Tau's Calypso Courier from 1956-1957. Collection of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) memorabilia (1953-1957) donated by Mary Anne Cross-Ehasz who graduated from RIT in 1957. She designed the official seal for the university that was used from 1956-1966. The collection includes photographs, design projects, and campus newspapers, as well as RIT memorabilia such as a sweatshirt, ashtray, and mug.

It is unclear when the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) first admitted minority students. However, it appears as though the first African American students entered the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (renamed RIT in 1944) during the early 1900s. For instance, in 1906 Fredericka Sprague, the granddaughter of Frederick Douglass, took classes at the Institute.
